The company is updating its financial services-related ad policies to ban any advertising about cryptocurrency-related content, including initial coin offerings (ICOs), wallets, and trading advice, Google’s director of sustainable ads, Scott Spencer, told CNBC.
This actually seems like a good move to me. There are some areas in which Google is just not great at telling the difference between truth and fiction1. The volume and nature of the ad business is staggeringly huge, which just complicates things further. Lastly: I sure as hell wouldn’t trust any cryptocurrency related Ads. I tend to assume that anyone who is paying to show me something related to cryptocurrency does not have my best interests at heart.
