Researchers at Volkswagen have been at the cutting edge of implementing D-Wave quantum computers for a number of complex optimization problems, including traffic flow optimization, among other potential use cases.
I have to admit, I didn’t expect Volkswagen to be a company pushing the limits of machine learning on quantum computers. The problem domain, traffic modelling, does make a lot of sense for a car company, though. That said: It sounds like they’re mostly doing research into what’s possible, rather actually deploying this for a legitimate purpose.
I’ll forgo the jokes about making sure they haven’t rigged the system to get the results they want.
